Bring on the New Year!

January 2014
Isaiah 3.75 and Johnjohn 2 years old

As the boys are becoming more manageable I decided to start picking up some extra work to go along with my part-time job.  This side job mainly involves working the ECMO night shifts (7pm-7am) every so often on the critical care unit in two of our local hospitals.  Due to H1N1 (a highly fatal flu virus) my extra job practically became my full-time job for the month of January.  Work all night, sleep all day...work all night, sleep all day.  After working seven, 12 hour graveyard shifts in a row I have to admit the boys seemed distant.  Or was I the distant one?  On my fifth night, as I was leaving Jonathan pulled at my jacket as I  was walking out the door and whimpers, "Mama don't go to work!!  No mama!!"  And then, Jonathan who has never been a cuddle bug while sleeping crawls up into my bed to take his afternoon nap with me.  No question, he was missing me.  Isaiah almost four, missed me but at this point he truly was enjoying getting more bonding time with his dad and Grandma Betty.   Thanks to my husband and mother-in-law the boys were well taken care of, but boy did it break my heart sometimes when my job obviously had to come first.  It makes me so grateful that I did go part-time and get to spend countless hours just being their mom and focusing solely on my motherly duties.  Because juggling it all is no easy task.

They both start looking so big and then I am reminded....

They, (especially my Jonathan)  are still my little babes.
